Christchurch Community Centre, Darley, Yorkshire
|
This very active community association have been working for years to ensure they have the most efficient building possible to service the round-the-clock needs of the local community.
The re-development of the hall has been ongoing for a number of years but the installation of an energy efficient heating system including underfloor heating, high levels of insulation and sunpipes was made possible by the efforts of an extremely hard-working committee and the award of a grant of £30,000 from Nidderdale AONB Sustainable Development Fund.
The ground source heat pump was installed to replace an older inefficient heating system. Underfloor heating was installed under new timber floors. As there was little available space for laying trenches around the building, two boreholes were drilled to a depth of 100m each and closed loop pipe was installed in these. The heat pump is a 12kW Terra Compact unit.
The entire story of the renovation and amazing effort into what is a remarkably vibrant community centre is on their blog here.
