A Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) rating is the Government's standard system for rating home energy.  It estimates the space and hot water heating costs per square metre of floor space and converts it into a rating from 1 to 100, with higher scores (up to 120) being possible with the use of microgeneration to export energy back to the National Grid. 

SAP assessments are carried out by SAP assessors (they can be done from your building drawings) and a SAP rating is required as part of the Building Regulations.  The higher the number, the lower the energy consumption.

SAP Ratings will form part of the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) which is required for all newly built homes from April 2008.  Other requirements of the EPC include an Environmental Impact Assessment.

At Invisible Heating Systems, we don't just work with or rely on SAP ratings only when we design a heating system.  We also need to calculate heat loss, together with hot water requirements.
